Animals provide us with so many things whether it be medical advancements and therapy, companionship, guardianship etc.; but one thing many of us don't give them credit for is their ability to connect with us spiritually and to reteach us how to pay attention to our inner soul. Throughout history humans have been found to connect with animals on a deep and indescribable level. One may even describe this connection as a connection between our spirits or souls. We view animals as the epitome of innocence and purity and because of this we can learn many things from them in terms of our own spirituality. They exist without being controlled by an ego, something that humans have a very hard time doing. At the most basic level, animals can teach us how to love in love's purest form. We begin to live through love while in the presence of an innocent animal and may find a very deep level of happiness and healing. Although we cannot talk to animals, we are still able to form very strong bonds and connections with them that shows that there is so much more to these bonds than a simple common interest based friendship humans tend to create together. They teach us to exist outside the realm of an ego based society and to follow our heart's will in its purest form. By opening our minds to a different kind of pure love with an animal, we are able to expand our realm of consciousness and open ourselves up to spiritual learning. Animals may advance our spiritual development- whether it be aiding in morality, physical well- being, mental well- being or strengthening our ability to love and feel happy. When we are able- even just briefly- to experience this pure and true happiness we are able to forget the negative and fast- paced stresses human life tends to throw at us. This is a huge reason why we have pets and enjoy being in nature- whether that reason is known to us or not. Surrounding ourselves with animals also allows us to forget about categorizing everything and using hierarchies in which we are so prone to doing in daily life. Instead we rejoice in nature's oneness- the ability to respect everything as equal and connected at the deepest levels. Animals force us to slow down and live within the moment. By doing this we become much more aware and spiritually attuned. Animals have so much to offer and teach us that would help us not just as individuals but also as members of a shared planet. In ancient and modern tribes- often aboriginal- the connection with nature and its beings was fundamental. They recognized animals as part of a whole interconnected system to which they belonged as well- and therefore the animals were viewed as part of themselves- necessary for their well-being and the well- being of their spirits. Many aboriginal tribes view animals as spiritually sacred and are viewed as leaders in spirituality and given the upmost respect and love. This means that there is careful means to respect nature and never abuse it. Many endangered and rare plants are only found on First Nation's land. We should try our best to regain this respect for nature and animals in our daily lives. Not only will we learn many things about ourselves and our capabilities through connecting with animals- but we will also better ourselves at the end of the day. This heightened respect will also create a better and healthier Earth for us all to enjoy and share.
