In 2012 Gini Green and Debi Boies teamed up to found a not for profit organization called Pilots N’ Paws Canada. This volunteer run organization offers free air transportation within Canada for animals- whether it be pets or wildlife- needing to be relocated to various shelters, refuges or homes. With an obvious need to locate wildlife to specialized refuges where they can get the best care possible, there is also a need to relocate pets great distances as well. With many shelters filling up and resulting in the unfortunate reality of having to either deny acceptance to more animals in need or euthanizing those that have been there too long, Pilots N’ Paws uses air transportation to relocate these animals to give them a second chance in smaller, less well- known yet safe shelters or foster homes across the country until they are able to unite with their forever homes. Pilots N’ Paws not only have amazing volunteer pilots who fly these animals across the country in private planes but they also have a program called Petscorts. Petscorts are volunteers with Pilots N’ Paws who accompany and escort the animals to ensure they are comfortably and safely transported from one place to another. They offer this service in both private and commercial planes depending on the need of the animal. This one of a kind organization has helped thousands of animals. Their team of dedicated volunteers is saving animals lives each time they make a trek and giving them new found hope. Take Loki for example, a two-year old German Shepard who was abandoned was recently dropped off at his new forever home in Sept- Iles Quebec thanks to Pilots N’ Paws. The air travel is much more comfortable and short for the animals in comparison to the otherwise long and stressful car rides they would take if Pilots N’ Paws were not available. Another recent success story involves a Snowy Owl, who had been found injured in Fort Albany and sent to St. Catherines to be rehabilitated by the Owl Foundation. Pilots N’ Paws were able to offer transportation for the owl back to Fort Albany when the owl had been successfully treated. The original founders of the owl and the Pilots N’ Paws team were able to take part in an uplifting release of the beautiful Snowy Owl that had a second chance due to a great team of dedicated animal lovers.
